$6000 luxury daily that gets decent gas mileage
Currently I have a 1999 Civic EX 5 speed sedan. I plan on giving the car to my dad when I graduate. He lives and works in Africa, but needs a car to get around when he's in the states.
I want to get a comfortable, luxury car to daily but also gets decent mileage (25+ mpg) and don't have to worry about reliability.
What are some good suggestions?
Automatic preferred.
Doesn't matter RWD, FWD, AWD, Left Wheel Drive, Right Wheel Drive.
Thought about TSX, TL, GS300, but I want to explore some options.

Problem is that people who buy luxury cars typically don't care much about gas mileage - this is especially true of older luxury cars. A newer, FWD Japanese luxury car is probably your best bet. With 70% highway driving you can expect 26-27mpg out of the TL - and this is premium. There are cheaper ways to get around, but if you want luxury, good gas mileage, and cheap, your options are very limited.

your budget is $6k? Stick with Lexus or Acura. It's the only cars I'd trust > 100k miles. I sold my '03 bmw 325 ix for $6k, so the germans are out there too. Just be ready to drop some coin for repairs if you go Euro.

Buick with the 3800 series engine. The two large Buicks of the late part of the last decade were old school Caddy quite and smooth. They don't have the really nice interiors than Acura and Lexus had at the time or that Buick now has but they were quite decent and solid if plain. However, if smooth and quite are most important to you...
SAAB 95 or perhaps 93 (VERY good seats) Both are entry level luxury. Actually the 9-5 was, comfort and interior wise, a true competitor to the E39 BMW. The 93 interior isn't that dated. The 95 is late 90s look but quite nicely put together. The big thing is SAAB really knew how to make a good seat. Very comfortable.
Mazda 6. Somewhat more sporty Camry.
B5 Passat (sadly that have service needs similar to a B5 Audi A4) Basically a discount A4 with A4 level interior and sadly A4 level service issues.
Remember you are on a fixed budget so you are better off thinking of cars that aren't going to have high resale values. The $6k Lexus or Acura is likely quite old and at that age possibly no more reliable than many other $6k cars.

good call on the american options. Add Lincoln, Mercury, and Chrysler to the list with Buick and Caddy. You may be able to find an early CTS in your budget, those were highly praised for the handling and departure from old caddy parade floats.

The TSX isn't exactly luxurious, however, you can still have heated leather seats, sunroof, lumbar support, spacious interior etc. The engine and trans in the first gen are fantastic and you can easily get over 30mpg on the highway or using a light foot around town.
