5th gen Prelude ATTS question?
I have a question about the ATTS in 5th gen Prelude. I am itching to get one to over compensate for not having one when I was younger. (LOL)
I wonder if the ATTS is designed to last the lift time of the transmission / car with proper maintenance? And what kind of maintenance is required?
Is the Type SH a bad idea? Should I just go for base with aftermarket LSD instead?
I am planning on keeping it stock.
Anything that worries me is the mileage. I can't really find another under 110k - 120k in my area. I wonder if the drive train can still endure "spirited driving", or even auto X or track day?

IIRC the only maintenance mandated for the ATTS unit is to drain and change the ATTS unit fluid at some interval (I want to say every 50,000 miles???). It should be filled with standard Honda automatic transmission fluid - which can get somewhat confusing becuase the SH transmission itself requires Honda MANUAL transmission oil...
The ATTS units are generally pretty trouble free, unless you are making over 240 HP with forced induction or nitrous or such.
See this link for the ATTS technical guide:

I had a 99 SH for about 120k miles until the motor blew. The ATTS unit itself never gave me problems, but the electronics module did need to be replaced once. If you search the preludeonline.com forums, you'll find quite a few folks who needed to replace the electronics.
It was a great and fun car. Never regretted the purchase.

I had a base auto (it was my wife's car that became my DD) and loved it. It was extremely good in virtually all areas, instead of a standout in just a couple. I actually prefer the handling of the BB6 Prelude to a DC2 (any chassis, including the ITR). I felt the rear end came out smoother and more easily controlled. I had almost 180k miles when I traded mine in for a Honda Fit because I kept hitting my son's head when taking him out of the Prelude (bad dad). The auto trannies had potential problems, but if it went past 60k with no issues, you had a good auto tranny then. The only problem I had in mine was a small oil leak around the VTEC solenoid which was an easy fix. The only thing I wish I did with it before trading it was a JRSC...a positive displacement charger on the H22 would've been a blast!
