57 mpg? That's so 20 years ago

How about letting the free market regulate itself? Let the companies build what they want, let the consumers buy what they want. When did politicians become better car engineers than the car engineers? Petroleum is a limited resource. Eventually it will become much more expensive than it is already. At that point, people will want vehicles that get better gas mileage (they already do). There is going to be a time (very soon) that the consumer will not stand for a vehicle that gets 12mpg, 15mpg, or even 25mpg. There are a limited number of people who can afford to pay $100+ to fill up their vehicles twice a week. Once one of the manufacturers realize this, and produce vehicles that get better gas mileage, people will buy them over vehicles that get crappy mileage, and the other manufacturers will follow suit. I'm tired of being force fed what the government thinks is good for me.

No way. Here's what would result - pollution like what Shanghai has now.



The politicians aren't better engineers, but they can be better at setting goals for engineers to achieve.
