I always wonder why so many people put so much work into cars then sell them right away. Seems like every time I see a swapped car selling, or a rebuilt DSM/RX7/whatever, they always say 'engine rebuilt >2k miles ago' or something. Seems like with all that work you'd want to drive it a bit before getting tired of it.

Because they usually know the headaches that go with owning cars like that. It's rare for someone to strip a car down or do major work and put it together as nicely or solidly as the OEM assembly crew.

For some/many, the build it the fun part, moreso than driving it. They enjoy wrenching on it, and when the satisfaction of completion has worn off, they hunt for the next project.

Or the build cost more than expected, and you have to sell to recoup money. This has happened to me.
