I agree, FWD doesn't offer anything close to the challenges of a RWD, nor the rewards of a well driven RWD. For me, the fun factor of RWD and edge over the FWD car make a huge difference.
And for the record, I don't believe the Civic Si is anything close to an S2000 other than the fact that its a Honda.
Rx-8 is definetely the enxt closest thing to a 4 door S2000.

Think of it like the S2000 is drinking fresh-squeezed lemonade, and the Si is like lemonade from concentrate. It's the same basic taste, just not QUITE as good, and not QUITE as pure of a drink/experience. But the flavor is about the same.
As far as the RX-8. I agree the driving experience is very close to the S2000, but it isn't much more practical. I've sat in the back of one, and it is a lot closer to sitting in the back of my dad's old Accord than it is to sitting in the back of my TSX. If you want a little more room to haul STUFF, the RX-8 is probably a good call. But if the OP wants 4 doors to haul people, I'd say an RX-8 isn't going to cut it, unless the people are kids who are not yet in high school.
The Evo and WRX/STi I don't have a lot of experience with, but I think they are probably similar in speed and handling ability, but not necessarily feel, especially the engine and power characteristics, as well as the handling with the AWD.

My next 4dr in order
1. IS300
2.WRX/STi
3.Civic Si
Once the wife is done with school i will deffinetly get one of these for her. (Unless we can afford an M).The Lexus is at the top of the list mainly because she likes it the best, and it would be her car, but i would rather have a Subaru.

The RX-8 is definietly the closest to a 4 door S2000 if you look at drivetrain, size, weight, and performance.
I guess you might be able to make a case for somthing like a Lancer Evolution too. The S2000 and the Evo are both cars that are focused primarily on performance and make few compromises for comfort and convenience.

The RX-8 is the closest thing, which is the point of this thread - same rwd, same high rpms, same relative torque, same six speeds. An Si may be similar, but fwd is a big difference between the three cars. No sense getting into another argument on the merits of fwd and rwd.
