360 Modena and beyond
#1
A lot of people think the 360 is one of the best modern Ferrari's and I can see why since the 575M while a great car has a bit of a weight problem.
I've heard people complain they are too common but not to me since I can't ever recall seeing one on the street. Does anyone know how many are sold each year in the US?
Also I was wondering about the replacement model I've heard it was going to use a larger V8 engine (4.3L 450hp). When that comes out (when ?) will it be a big price hike ? I guess if the Gallardo is well recieved at $170K the Ferrari will try to stay close to that price. So what will that do the the prices of used 360 Modena's?

Yes, the replacement for the 360 will use a bigger engine. I've heard 4.2 liters just like the Maseratti 4200. It will also get new body styling, which I've heard will be edgier like the Enzo.
As for price, they can't move much. The Ford GT and Gallardo are both around $150k.
And it shouldn't do much for used 360 prices. I don't think 348 prices dropped considerably when the 355 came out, nor did 355 prices drop considerably when the 360 came out.
Expect to see the car within 2 years.

There are people on a waiting list for 360 spiders for longer than they will be making the car probably. A new car will not hurt the 360's resale since it is in such high demand. Actually, I think once the 360's came out, the resale on 355's jumped because there was such a long wait to get a 360. Also, if the new "edgy" styling is not well accepted, resale on the 360 could go even higher, (a la Porsche 993 turbo)

Good point newer isn't always better.
What's the deal with the waiting list? If you were on the list for a 550M for example I heard you got bumped to the head of the list for the 575M. Anyone know? Also is there a buisness of flipping these cars. I mean people on list only to re-sell for a profit?

I'd like to see a v-10 in the 360 replacement. That is a break with tradition which I know is very important at Ferrari, but in truth the Dino line started out with v6 motors so there is a precident. Futhermore with the move to make the standard 12 cylinder models front engined (not including super specials like the f50 and Enzo in that group), this leaves the Dino line in position to embrace a modern F1 influence which is already present in being mid engined.
