Red face $30k Sport Sedans

Two $30k sport sedans go head to head, one fwd, the other rwd.

I saw the new maxima for the first time last night and I must say, in white, it is a looker!

My care for big American sedans with tons of power has dwindled.

If you're shopping for a large $30k sedan, is the poor mileage sought after?

edit:

I guess I'm not the target buyer for this genre, I guess that's why they don't entice me.

Between those two, the closest I'd come to a Nissan dealer is doing a big burnout in front of the dealership in a G8 GT.

The G8 really is a great car for the price. It was the clear winner and came in a few thousand less than the Maxima. It did the same to the Charger a few months back. I think G8 it is too heavy (like most cars these days) and not having the manual kills it for me, but for $30k I'm not sure I could ask for more. On price nothing really comes close, and the interior and the fit and finish are pretty good too. Now where is the GXP? I still want more power, a manual trans, tighter suspension, and better brakes.

Edit: 1600 RPM for the G8 at 60 mph, it must do pretty well for real world highway numbers. I would be willing to sacrifice a few mpg for alot more power.

Both cars get decent economy for their size - on par with the industry competition and definitely better than SUVs.

The new Maxima actually looks better than I thought it would - the design has some power to it, but too bad its fwd. Motor Trend reported that torque steer is almost non existent, but you still have fwd pull dynamics.

Nissan thought about going rwd with this Maxima - it should have imo.

G8 Gt owners claim they see low 20s in real world driving.

If you're spending $30k on a car, does a few mpg really matter?

Imo, if you want to save on gas and have a big car, you'd get an Accord - you can get one with an I4 after all. If you wanted to have a big car and have fun with it, you'd buy something like the Maxima or G8. It depends on your priorities - if you want an appliance that will save you on gas, there are options, if you want fun, there are options - there's a ton of choice for $30k.

Exactly. 3mpg isn't much when you consider how much more fun the G8 is.

I'd rock the G8 All day long, cylinder deactivation means you actually get decent mileage on the Highway....I don't really consider the Maxima a sports sedan.
