There isn't anything new for $28K that fits the bill for me as an only car.
A new WRX isn't sporty enough compared to a used 335/135 that are both a lot faster in a straight line, can be had for $28K all day long, just as fast around the corners, much smoother, nicer and more refined. Any of the other hot hatches fall short, just in other areas.
I had this scenario a while ago and a 335i was the answer, for me. I really wanted an EVO, IX, but I couldn't find one that had low miles and wasn't modified. WRX's are not worth the hype or the money they command.
$28K is hot hatch money, and they are all ok but they are better cars out there on the used market that are still under warranty.
So an EVO or 135/335 I think are the best options for $28K used as one size fits all category, the choice depends on what you value more, luxury/refinement or hoonage and for new cars I would pass in this price range.

Your combo is pretty much ideal. You have the utility and Mpg's with the Fit and the sporty top down fun factor with the s2000. I would def. keep two cars. Going to one would be a bit boring. Save up some cash and slap on a vortech supercharger for the s2k. I wish I had kept my s2000. maybe in 2-3 years ill be able to spring for an 04-05. And this is coming from a guy who has owned 3 s2000's.

For a single car, probably a 2013 WRX hatch premium if new. Or an E46 M3 competition package or Evo X MR if used.
For multiple cars probably a used 335 or 135 and a Miata.

335 and 135 actually don't handle that great especially on track, not enough camber, soft suspension, no LSD. It's a great street car with lots of power with a tune but I'd rather have a new WRX with a tune if I were to do track work too. If it's 90% DD and 10% track I'd pick the BMW but you're still comparing apples to oranges, new vs used w/o a warranty. I'm a former 335i coupe owner BTW.

Exactly what I have right now without question - a clean S2K and an affordable small/midsize SUV for utility, bad weather, etc. (heck, your Fit will do for that, so just keep what you have).

Yeah, I plan to keep what I have and love the setup for me. Just wondering what others would do.

I've been thinking the same thing recently. I just bought a 2008 legacy gt. now it got me wondering if I sold my S2000 with all parts and legacy gt I would have 30-35k to go towards something else. It's a tough one though. Keep trying to see what I'd like more and really hard. I've thought of a c6 z06 as I love those but then wouldn't have a nice awd daily anymore.
