Me? No, I love my combination I do NOT want a "do everything" car, but I know some people here like them, so I guess I'm curious what other people would get.

hmm.. how about BRZ & $25k in your pocket?
[/quote]
so BRZ only costs $3000? sign me up!

Sorry about that, wasn't clear.. I was referring to selling what I have and buying the BRZ.
I do agree with you, i_heart_my_DB8, it's not going to be as fun as dedicated cars.

I would get a BRZ as my do everything car for $28k. I would prefer to have different cars for different purposes (like I do know). But I think of how much money is sitting and not being used. My appeal to a "do everything" car comes from a financial POV. BRZ would be paid in full, $$ left over, & I'd save in insurance too. hmmm.. so what I am waiting for? lol
I WILL be getting a Whiteout FR-S most likely (certain things I like about the FR-S over the BRZ, I'll just have to get over the crappy stereo unit and Scion name) next year to replace my aging DD. My hope is that I can have an S2K-like car to drive every day that I can enjoy... without having to actually take my S2K in inclement weather and helps me keep the miles low on it. Plus the 86 is more DD friendly than an S2K as far as space and comfort goes, gas mileage, etc. I really think I'll have the best of both worlds as far as affordable drivers cars go when I have the S2K CR / FR-S combo
Plus I can more easily get away with this since my wife swears by SUVs and will always have one (currently has an FJ Cruiser). Therefore I don't really ever have to worry about hauling/towing/moving things.

not to get away too far from the budget for the OP, but I would love to see how the new Lexus IS drives. They mainly focused on the "fun factor" when making this car instead of performance figures. Looking at FRS, I belive in Toyota's ability to build fun car. So add Fun with Luxury, reliability, and quality for this new IS. I don't mind the design either.

I am more and more leaning towards the 86 everyday.

NB miata for the track and canyon driving. '91 E30 325is coupe for DD and occasional canyon driving. Older subaru forester on GD chassis for utility, mountains, bad weather, and occasional DD.
I'd probably insure each of them for liability only since the vast majority of accidents would probably cause enough damge for them to be considered salvaged. I also wouldn't care as much about any of them the way I do my s2k, which is part of what holds me back at the track - more so car preservation than self preservation.

Assuming the lineup included my motorcycle getting wiped out, I'd buy an 08-09 S2000 and another Triumph.
If I was just replacing the S2000 with a $28k budget, I might get a used Boxster S, but if I really wanted one over an S2000, I'd have one already.
