So this is what we know so far:
220 lbs. lighter than the NC (although we don't know what trim the press release was referring to)
14% stiffer and lower than the NC
3.5 cm shorter in length than the NA and only 5mm taller
=
~2,240-2,340 overall weight while having a damn tiny chassis and a return to roots version of the Miata

Looks good...I agree it looks like a Z4 in the rear, but otherwise it doesn't look too close to anything else. It evens looks quite different from its own predecessors. My wife had an auto 2011 PRHT MX-5 and we didn't enjoy the drive much - nothing wrong with it, just not very inspiring or fun. I hope this one can change that.

I truly don't understand how mazda who barely sells cars nowadays can afford to build a roadster while Honda and Toyota don't. It might not be great for their business but Im glad mazda has stuck to its origins and still makes sporty cars eventhough times have changed a lot..
Oh yeah, and they make the MX-5 still, and it just got even lighter/better.
Sounds like what Honda USED to be.

How is it not an MX-5? It doesn't have double wishbone rear suspension anymore? It's smaller (by a lot) and lighter (by a LOT) than the last one, and is closer to the original in every way than it has been seen the NB. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with sharing parts with another car in the range to save costs if it means the parts work just as well, and look great.

lol sorry. Jalopnik lays it out pretty well for you. Nothing official has been released as far as numbers, but Mazda has said that the car will be AT LEAST 100kgs lighter.
