^^^ Exactly - the Miata isn't for spec/metric fanatics, it's for enthusiasts (like me) who find them to be tons of fun irrespective of the relatively low power. On tight, twisty, bumpy backroads, I expect it will be more fun than most supercars.

Chris, by suggesting that we are not "enthusiasts" if we can't get behind the Miata formula simply ignores and underlying truth, we are ALL enthusiasts. Some of us are just more enthusiastic for some things then others. I don't think anyone is wishing it was a completely different formula, but I can certainly understand a call for more power than the last version and I am still confident that Mazda will provide. It's not going to be mindblowingly faster than an NC but hitting the mark for weight loss and cutting power would be a mistake IMO.

I also get the people who love them as is, but let's be real here, there are a ton of Miata owners who have been begging for a little more power for years, or trying to modify them to get some. I am just hoping to get there out of the box. I don't think 200 ruins the car or makes it different then its original design. The Elise had 200hp, it was even lighter, and was not considered a dragstrip monster.
I probably will not get my wish, but am holding out hope there will be enough cries and mazda will do a Mazdaspeed version or special edition with some juice. I would actually prefer a NA motor with 200 hp over a small turbo, even though the tubo is easier to modify.
Chris S, I thought you had a Cayman S listed in your stable for a while and moved on kind of quickly. If that is true I am curious why you did not find it to your liking. I am targeting either a 2009-12 or the new model for the next car as my primary get. I am just smitten by this new Miata design though.

IMO this will make a great track/weekend car. can't wait for full specs and test driving it

Even with the 2.5liter Sky G, It'll still get beat by a 104HP 2185lb CRX Si and a 108hp 2286lb 1988-91 Civic Si around the AutoX course. I call those cars "Autocross Anomolies"
A little SCCA joking there but seriously, I hope this thing is good, real good, put a FWD Honda back to shame good!

I have no hate for the Honda, I love the underdog.
