Yes I do wish these had a manual tranny
Shame it doesn't. 99% aren't going to race it so a few milliseconds difference in shifting doesn't matter.

I don't know that tuning a carb vs. tuning an ECU is a valid comparison to the shifter issue. You don't tune your car dozens of times per drive, every single drive.

If you own the right (wrong?) car, you do!

Well, not really. But almost!

If I was in the market for one, I'd just get the normal turbo and pocket the 40k+ difference.

I'm seeing it already on the Porsche forums. Everyone is enamored with the PDK, even the track rats. Most of the folks are not just saying that it's faster, but taking advantage of the PDK lets them focus their attention on braking points and turn in, helping their driver development. I went for some hot laps (as a passenger) in one a PDK equipped 2013 Cayman at a track day this summer, and to say it's impressive is an understatement. Not sure I'm ready to give up my shifter either, but they're already converting a large percentage of the Porschephiles.

Looks awesome but I think I'll just get a 997 Turbo so I can shift my own gears. It's not hard to tune the 997 Turbos to high HP either. It's on my list for the next couple of years.

I'll probably never own one of these cars, but I'd love to drive one some day. IMO, this car is approaching perfection.

That will never happen I think. A big part of driving a car for fun can be shifting the gears on a road where there is no lap time to worry about. True manuals will always exist, just not in the hyperexotics that are track-oriented, but they are becoming so automated you probably won't have to even steer soon.

Maybe things have changed, but the PDK used to overheat with track use.
