You guys are forgetting you have to drive the car to that laptime. And for sure none of you bench-racers are capable of that.

So the 918 was everything I expected and like the C&D says it turns laps like an LMP car. For me, the big surprise was the Z/28. 135mph through the climbing esses is astounding. I went through that section of VIR in my Boss 302 at about 95mph and it was pants filling.

60K for a car that turns laps with a 911 Turbo and an F12? There's your bang for you buck.
They are 75k
Right, what he said.

Those tires alone are worth 3-4s per lap. A simple tire change makes the equation VERY different. I don't usually pull the "tire card" but in this case, it's a massive difference that gives the Z28 a very big advantage. Anyone that is tracking a car like that would also put similar tires on the other cars. The rest of them are using roughly equal tires (high-performance rubber) rather than tires that are essentially track-only.

Or spend $57k on a Stingray Z51, do brake fluid, track pads, alignment and sport cup 2 tires and outrun the Z/28 for $60k.

I'll gladly donate $100 to the "Let's buy a Z28 owner a set of regular tires so he can go to the track and set a laptime so we can quite arguing and speculating about how much of a difference the tires make" fund. Anyone else?

For how many laps?

Getting too excited about tires... each car was tested with the tires that come on it. Clearly the Z28 is a race car that is streetable and does a great job for what it is. I feel the lap test is one of the best comparisons available and take it for what it is, not for what it might be with changes.

With all due respect, I don't disagree with your point on the tires, but I think that the notion that the Camaro Z28 is a race car for the street is a big overstatement. 911 GT3s, Viper ACRs, s2000 CRs, etc. are track day cars. If it doesn't come with a cage and gutted interior, it's a street car with race parts (to some degree or another), not a race car.

911 Cup cars are race cars. A Viper ACR-X is a race car. It's not about speed, it's about prep.

Facts
Trofeo Rs are pretty extreme tires though...wish the TA would of had them. Combine those and the aero tweeks on the 2015 and it closes the gap on the 918 a lot.

When the TA was first released it sounded like it would get trofeos sooner rather than later. Guess 355s aren't available yet. I'm hoping they come out in 345s soon.

It would be cool for them to run past cars on the same day too. Maybe take the last 4-5 years fastest cars and bring them out too with the newest tires available. Would be cool to see.
