Default 2014 Car and Driver Lightning Lap results

i stole this off of the GTR Board, so hopefully it correct... should know for sure in a day or two when the magazine shows up. not sure how the new paving had effect on lap times (comparing old lap times to new lap times)

Just for perspective

2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe ACR 2.48.6
ZR1 corvette 2:50.7 ( almost got beat by Z28)
458 Italia 2:49.9
LFA 2:55.1

*one note to consider here is VIR was widened and repaved so its not 100% to directly compare this year to previous..

ya, i assume since VIR is wider and has new paving it should be a little faster... i just saw a video and turn 3 definately got a lot wider... should shave a few tenths here and there.... not sure why the viper TA didn't kill the ACR time.

since i don't have the magazine i'm not sure who was driving... hopefully a real driver and not the editors of C&D...

M4 and R8 are slower than I thought they'd be.

M235i is quite a bit slower than I anticipated - over 4s slower than a Cayman S with similar power (less weight). Same with the STi with it's supposed improved handling (roughly 8s slower).

Gotta hand it to the GT-R, though - for its age, it's still whomping on everything else. Nissan has done a great job of updating it throughout the years.

Too bad they didn't have the new Mustang GT out there - that would've been an interesting lap time to see.

I'd say the C7 Stingray is the bang for buck winner...

M235i tire selection... . Cayman S has better and wider tires.

No doubt it would have been nice to see the new Mustang GT out there. Some pro driver will have to make a little sponsored video for us.

Having driven on the new pavement, it is definitely faster. That said, the inner part of the Grand course is unchanged.

For perspective, Car and Driver set a 3:15 in a CR back in 2008, but said the brakes held the car back significantly.

Always fun to see how cars stack up relative to one another. Lots of heavy cars setting impressive times.

edit: Also it looks like they may have run the Focus ST in both 2013 and 2014? I'm not sure if anything on the car has changed....the times look like a 3:21.4 vs 3:17.6

If so, that would certainly go to show how much faster the track is now.

since I don't have my issue in my hands yet, I am curious who did the driving...I hope it was one professional in all the cars...

it is neat to see all the times for the same course on the same day..... track conditions can definitely make 1-2 second difference on small 2 mile courses so I would imagine on this configuration a 3-4 second difference from day to day...

You cannot base any impressions about the track being faster off of Focus ST times. They stated during the event last year that they lost/broke the keyless fob for the Focus ST after just 3-4 laps. So they were never able to put down a best lap.
