300 lb. lighter than 4100 lb. is still PIG heavy. Hopefully they get it right with the 6th gen, this generation is nothing but donor cars to me.
That's about the weight of the current M3, which seems to do fine despite its heft. I'm interested to see what this can do before I start talking about how terrible it is. At least Chevrolet is trying, which is more than can be said for a lot of Japanese car companies these days.

Off topic, but I'd be surprised if the Aventador curb weight is really 3,500lb.
This Car and Driver roadtest puts curb weight at 4,085lb:

Road & Track says 3,795lb:

A base care with zero options, sure. BMWs options start piling on the weight and the $$$. You could easily get one up to 3700+ with a tech/premium, 19s, sunroof, DCT etc. But regardless of a little heft, I still think it's wonderful machine. If a 3800lb GTR is a fatty, it's one hell of fat athlete.

Nope, never did like Lambos. They look like overgrown Hot Wheels. They break constantly.

Well yes actually on the looks. Lamborghini's have always been cartoon cars since they adopted the angular look of the Countach back in the 70's and never progressed from there. As for the breaking, it seems like every magazine test I've ever read of a Lambo ends with the car not being able to finish head to head testing because it craps out somehow while whatever it's being compared to goes on to win by default simply by completing the testing. Sorry but ugly, unreliable, and over priced doesn't inspire envy as much as laughter, no matter the performance.

The Aventador is an honest two-ton+ supercar, no matter what Wikipedia might say. I've never owned a Lamborghini so I can't speak to the reliability but I have owned a Chevy and can say that the Camaro drivetrain is the last thing I'd worry about.
I think ~3200 lbs. is a sweet spot for a sports car, agreeing with Spudracer, but I consider it a soft limit - a Viper isn't a bloated pig, it's just the weight a car needs to be to direct that V10 torque where it needs to go. Less weight is better, but I'd happily take a hundred more pounds or so given a stiffer chassis.
I think the current Camaro is at least several hundred pounds too heavy and too big in every dimension for my taste. Regardless, we know the Mustang can match the M3's performance. And anyone who isn't a BMW fanboi should have no reason to think GM can't make a Camaro that can do just as well.
BMW has no car that honestly competes with the Corvette. The fact that the BMW halo car is best matched with the Chevy Camaro says it all. I find endless amusement reading indignant BMW fanboi comments on Camaro threads.
