Thank you for coming out. Please name me a "masculine" SUV. Thanks.

Hummer H2! The real man's SUV! Twice the weight and half the mileage! Zero sense!

For men who never ever go off road but want to let everyone know they could if they wanted to.

Lol - you're right. I do stand corrected! Sorry everyone - next thing I get told is I drive a woman's convertible, too.

Seriously.....
  • A Tahoe will actually tow something useful.
  • A Wrangler Rubicon will actually go almost anywhere.

Escapes & CRV's are sold as cheap AWD suburban grocery getters to people who think they can't get by with 2WD. Muranos, Explorers, and Enclaves are the next step up for soccer moms who don't want to drive a minivan but need more space for the family vacation. As far as I can tell, Tahoes, Escalades, and Expeditions are used solely to transport a single person back and forth to work while clogging up our highways with gas guzzling behemoths that effectively block any view of the road in front of me.

although many women drive them as well, IMO, the Range Rovers are masculine.

But are you serious? The Ford Escape, masculine? There are so many SUVs that deserve the word

Japanese
Toyota 4Runner (the older ones, the latest gen is debatable) or Sequioa or Land Cruiser
Nissan Armada or Pathfinder or Xterra
Honda Pilot

German
Benz GL/G class
BMW X5
Audi Q7
Porsche Cayenne

American
Tahoe
Suburban
Denali
Escalade
Expedition
H1 Hummer

and many more.

Escape, not even close.

Good list. The issue I have is they are all big SUV's when comparing the "small" SUV category what are we left with?

Well, the auto scribes have coined the term "cute utes" for the category. I think that pretty much puts an end to the the whole manliness debate.

Quien es mas macho? Basically, anybody who doesn't drive a "cute ute".

I understand your point but I'm not sure you'll find a small SUV that is going to say, "hey, look I'm small yet masculine SUV!"

i.e. The BMW X3 is nice but I haven't seen a man drive one. The GLK is also a nice small SUV but I have yet to talk to a man wanting to drive it.

The CRVs, well, too many women drive them. I think the crossover Infiniti FX35 or Nissan Murano are the best compromise for small and big.

Land Rover should bring back the Defender 90.
