I'm sort of wondering if the cars had spacers (for transport) still on them or if the stance was somehow altered by the photographer. The current car has a much better stance and the taller stance is bad for aerodynamics/fuel economy as well (ie, I don't know why this car would have it). Seriously, the wheel/fender gap looks to be about 4", which would be retarded (I don't think ANY current car has that).

It's a Civic! It can't be aggressive- or controversial-looking. It has to suit the general population, not the sports car crowd. If it's too sporty- or aggressive-looking, the old people may be put off by it. It'll continue to be the 3rd or 4th best-selling car.
