Pretty impressive.
But I think too much is being made of the whole "the mustang is as fast as the M3 for half the price" thing.
You can spend 15 bucks at McDonalds and pack in twice as many calories worth of tasty, high-fat food...as you could for 60 bucks at a fancy steak house. But it doesn't make it better.
...it doesn't make it worse either. It just makes it different.
At the end of the day, the mustang offers lots of bang for your buck performance...and the M3 offers great performance and luxury and more exclusivity. They are probably a lot less comparable than we, or automotive magazines, would like to make them out to be.
I don't think that BMW is too worried about the mustang eating up their M3 market...and vice versa.

I also didn't get the feeling that the reviewers felt the BMW motor was better than the Ford motor. The other part of the BMW equation needs to be a great motor. It doesn't have to be the most powerful but it needs to have great power delivery and feel. Again it wasn't clear that BMW was the outright winner in the motor category either.
Finally, that really was a pretty lame bit of reporting. The article contained a lot of numbers and some stuff that read like ad copy. It was really lacking detailed info about things like ergonomics, details about how the motors and handling felt. It was like talking about a good meal but spending most of the time talking about the chair and table and only briefly even mentioning what you ate much less adding some details about flavor and texture.

the Mustang GT is better looking and better sounding than the M3.
I love the new 5.0 though regardless.

Impressive performance and Ford is really gaining some ground in my eyes and considering the GT is half the price of the M3, it's hard not to be impressed. I intend to drive a new GT but I think I've already been sold on a pearl white 370z and it will look spiffy next to my Glacier White Z32

Nice. Sans performance, the Mustang GT is better looking and better sounding than the M3.

I think the BMW still looks to have better fit and finish but I don't find the looks of the car that good. The Mustang is a good looking car but some of the details seem cheap. Since I see pros and cons to both I can't say which I think is better looking.

Strictly from a design standpoint the Mustang is great (minus the taillights). The M3 is a little... cheesy and overdone. The Sedan of course is much more conservative.
Now as for the fit and finish, interior, materials, etc... well thats no question. Although the E92 I drove last year had less than 20 miles on it and the 'seatbelt assist' arm thing was rubbing against the trim on both sides and was shiny/about to break. I guess all that weight has to come from somewhere...
