Developed jointly with a German platform and now owned by an Italian company. Super American hahah
That said, I'm a pretty big fan of this Jeep. Only wish it had a better transmission (I hear one is possibly already in planning) and a better radio/nav interface.

Not saying it wasn't (or isn't?) world changing, but they probably should have thought of one other american marvel besides the cotton gin to throw in the mix...

according to wikipedia:
"The company announced a US$1.8 billion, 285,000 square feet (26,477 m2) expansion of its Jefferson North Assembly plant to allow flexible manufacture of the next-generation model, as well as other undisclosed products off the same platform that was developed jointly with Mercedes (ML Chassis)."

In this case it isn't clear if Chrysler or if Mercedes headed the platform team.

so?
Don't take this to mean the vehicle will be better or worse depending on who did the design work. The results will have to stand on their own. I'm just asking because the marketing message is saying one thing. I don't know if the marketing message is actually true.

Too bad the SUV craze of wanting to drive around the suburbs in crammed, noisy, poorly equipped, gas guzzling vehicles is over. People are now slightly more sensible and drive around in family sedans and minivans jacked up to look like SUVs. That whole off-roading ability was really holding back an entire class of poseur mobiles that now dominates.
