Default 2010 VW GTI

Hi. The VW GTI is new for 2010, it's the Mark VI. It gets a new body style, new suspension, the peak torque starts at 1700 rpm and lasts to 5200 rpm. It has a new traction system.

What do members think of the new GTI? My main question is, has VW improved its reliability issues in the last few years? Ar are there still design and reliability problems?

lol, i just asked about this not 7 days ago. there were a couple people who owned GTIs in the past few years and the general consensus was that it was a decent DD, it does many things pretty well (but not spectacularly), and it's practical. none of them had serious problems.

My daily is an 08' 2 Door. It's a blast to drive, and i have not had any mechanical issues with it whatsoever.

It's a leased car, and will be coming up soon. I thought about trading it in on a 2010 model, but the small changes they made don't justify the new lease payments. Same motor, same interior, etc.

I actually prefer the looks of the 08' model. The back of this one looks like they crushed the back end of a touareg, and said vwala!

I wouldn't say they are "decent" because overall they are great cars. Problem is the people on here have exotic super car expectations with everything they drive. "Well my Mothers Sienna understeers....."

Perceived reliability often doesn't have anything to do with actual reliability. Even the old Golfs were fairly reliable and the internet is convinced anything from VW is terrible.

As far as objective info look at the following;
Edmunds true cost to own
Yahoo autos reliability - good for identifying common problems
reliability index (warranty direct) - UK based, but its much more transparent than Edmunds in that it shows actual data for various cars.

Obviously, no one knows how reliable the '10 GTIs will be as they have no track record. I wouldn't worry too much about it. They hold their value well so if at the end of the warranty period you don't feel confident about its reliability you can dump it without a huge loss and move on to something else.

It's still a fugly hatch, just with a slightly less fugly front end. As far as VW's go, I think they'd to well to kill the Golf and just replace it with the Scirocco across the board.

Is this guy serious? Maybe Honda should stop making the Civic and Ford should stop making the F-150 too.

i have an 09 GTI. i'm happy i got it when i did because i got 0% interest. i also like the look of the MKV better and think the the changes they made in the MKVI are minor. As far as reliablity goes, i think VW has come a long way with the Golf platform, and this new one seems like a continuation of the MKV, not a complete redesign from scratch. I love my car, have zero issues with it and would not be afraid to buy another one.
