Sorry to be a hater, but that is retro gone wrong, and I'm glad Ferrari doesn't rehash designs like that. Good for him that he has some orders and I don't mind coachwork cars, but that does nothing for me, its just awful.

Because it costs over a million dollars more? That pretty much puts it in a different market. (if this is what you mean by "aping")

I will say the Alfa is an endlessly more appealing design.

Looks good to me, I'd drive it. But then again I never read that much into dream items. I don't pick peanuts out of my shit either

How much do original 250 GTO's go for at auction? This thing costs $1.3 million plus the 599 donor.

^ Weren't they up to $6M or so? I have no idea, but I'm sure it's a TON more than that Vandenbrink thingy. And, you probably wouldn't want to drive the original around on public roads too much. It looks to be done to a pretty high level, really, with some interesting details, but I wouldn't buy one, even if I had the cash. The 599 is sufficiently pretty, and I could think of a lot of other things to spend the $1M difference on. But, to each his/her own...

Yeah, this is not a bad rebody, but it has some issues. And, if it's going to be that outrageously expensive, no way I'm ponying up that kind of cash for a rebodied 599 with upgrades. IMO, it's good-looking, but something about it makes it lose its Ferrari-ness, especially the side profile. From the side it looks like a hundred other fastbacks (I realize the old one was a fastback too). Conversely, the 599 cuts a very interesting and modern shape. Why not just do the hardware upgrades to a 599, call it the 599 GTB-F Stradale (or something), and skip the exterior redo? Every buyer of the car is just kidding him/herself as to what this car actually is. It's not a car developed ground-up to be a modern homage to the GTO; it's a rebodied 599, period. The P4/5 one-off is the same sort of thing, but at least its far less derivative in its styling approach. I understand that the high cost of this thing is most likely so the designer can actually make a chunk of change off his work, but I'm not impressed, and I'm frankly surprised it apparently caused such a stir.

I'd definitely take the Alfa 8C Comp over this. I wouldn't kick this to the curb if it was given to me, but even if I had the money to purchase something like this, I'm not buying it. As for this copying the Alfa 8C, I don't buy into that. The Alfa 8C shapewise isn't that much different than any other fastback car like a Corvette, Supra, or anything else of its type build since 1960. The only similarities are that they're both red, both have Italian names, and both have 4 wheels, an engine and transmission. I don't see much styling siilarity at all, again, beyond the shape.

This thing looks swoopy but not particularly good. It just isn't working for me. Too blocky and tall compared to the old Ferraris remotely similar to this one.

For effectively $1.6-$1.7M, I'd much rather (rai, back me up here!):

1. A standard 599 ($400K)
2. A Porsche Cayenne Turbo S ($100K)
3. A Carrera GT ($400K)
4. A very decent house ($600K)
5. A truck and race trailer ($60K)
6. A separate garage with a lift and tools ($60K)
