That sound you just heard was all of the WRX-ricers moving en mass over to Mitsubishi...

Wow. I'm impressed. Looks like a great buy. Wonder if you can get it without the rear wing? Looks like 85% of an Evo for 66% of the cost.

This will cannibalize sales of the EVO X IMO

I think it's a the nail in the coffin for Subaru and a cock block move for the EVO X

I think this is a good move by Mitsubishi. As good as Evolution, it is still for a small group of car enthusiasts who would be willing to pay more than thirty grands for a hardcore car which provides the passengers so little comfort. Many people want a Evo but not able to afford one, this Ralliart would be a great alternative and a great start. Now the price of this car has to be at least, in my opinion, six thousands lower than the base GSR EVO X, which is about $27k. If it starts at $24k, wow it would sell. Plus, the availability of the SST automatic transmission would increase the popularity of the car since many people either don't know how to or don't want to drive a manual transmission equipped vehicle. Now horsepower is really getting cheaper and cheaper. Ten years ago the E46 M3 has 240hp and costing so much more. Five years ago G35 came out with 260hp and still costing $32k+. Now even a $26k car could have 230hp-240hp, such as this Ralliart and the WRX. Cars costing $40k have at least 300hp, cars costing $50k+ should have at least 400hp.

This could hurt the WRX sales. Although, in theory the WRX is a detuned STi (not sure what it would take to make a WRX into an STi as I don't know much about either car).

But I think the styling of the WRX and STi are far better.

How? Why? Subaru already has the Impreza->WRX->STI progression, Mitsu was missing the link between Lancer and EVO, so this fills a needed gap, but I don't see how this is the final "nail in the coffin" for Subaru. Mitsu needs this to fill out the product line.

Aren't these (WRX, STI, Ralliart, EVO) homologation cars? They're made mainly so Mitsu and Subaru can race them in WRC, not because they're necessarily going for sales figures. Understanding that helps explain why the cars are they way they are (and their high prices imo).

Again, time will tell if the new engine is as durable and friendly as the 4g63. If it isn't, I'm sure the sub owners will remain.
I doubt it'll cannibalize sales to the EVO, VIII and IX will take away sales from the X, so sell a brand new car for the price of used ones and tempt people away from the used lots with the new car smell.
