... The 3.8 L in the base Carrera, and the GT3 motor in the Carrera S would have been an awesome lineup.

Yeah right, your woman is going to have you driving an Accord just like all the other Asian/Indian's in the bay area.
my woman is in the kitchen preparing my dinner.
she better have a cold beer if she knows what's good for her.

Don't count on the C7 having more power! Given rising CAFE hurdles and gas prices, I wouldn't be surprised to see hp going down in the next gen, w/ a greater emphasis on weight reduction to achieve performance goals.
that remains to be seen, but the C7 will be a better overall car than the C6. My point still stands that for a performance car, it's hard to justify paying twice the money for less performance (less car is a subjective matter and there's no correct answer; but no one can argue that the Base C6 beats the base 997 handily).

This is a pointless comment that tainted your post...thats like saying I wanna see a 747 break the sound barrier...if its not designed for that why should it accomplish it...an f1 car is designed for two races (engine)...If the entire 911 was better than anything under its price bracket than the marketing structure for the 911 would have to be altered would it not? If porsche can sell more cars the way they are doing it right now with their base model and S model trims why should they change anything...
The 747-400 is a high sub-sonic cruiser which trues out at about mach 0.85 or roughly 600MPH. The 747-100 during testing in the early 60's did mach 1.1 in a dive from FL400 breaking the sound barrier with no ill effects My "tainted" post represents my disdain for modern F1 racing and long appreciation of prototype racing. Your final comments make no sense whatsoever, don't know what you are trying to say as it has no relevance to what I stated.

okay guys...you've convinced me.

I'm gonna go buy the best of both worlds...a 996 Turbo

(but seriously, I am looking at maybe buying one)
Good choice. Still looks good. Chassis is overbuilt for the engine, but it is really simple to modify that car to 500-550 hp. Find one with the X50 package with the K24 turbos and you are looking at around 600 hp modification capability (without swapping the turbos).

Yeah, but that leaves the base model Carrera out in the cold. Judging from the sales of the base model, most people see it that way.

The 2nd part of my statement is not directed towards you, it was a general question for the debating parties...allow me to clarify my "marketing structure statement"...I do not know the sales numbers of the carrera but I would be willing to bet that if the base model was the "s" model, and only the higher performance models existed, then 1 the base model would clearly cost more than what it does now therefore undercutting some of the customer base which in turn leads to less profit as the people who could just afford the base model can no longer afford any 911..... the old adage still holds true that you cannot assume one knows your point as I was speaking of sustained level flight in reference to the Boeing jumbo but then again I believe you to be above a standard level of intelligence so you may have known that anyway and just wanted to give me crap b/c there was a loophole in my statement...
