The SLR was just the first shot: Mercedes-Benz and McLaren are beyond planning stages for a mid-engine, V8-powered supercar with sights set on Ferrari

That's a concept. Three different cars were to be made by McLaren for MB, but they called it quits. It probably won't be made by McLaren, perhaps only by MB. Who knows.

I doubt it'll come out in 2007.

In evo magazine they said it was all rumors of the breakup, and that the P7(SLR)'s succecessor's the P8, P9(SLR sequel) and P10(P8) sequel were simply being postponed until who knows when...

DC owns 40% of Maclaren. That would be a very expensive breakup. However, due to DC's cost cutting, the mid-engined F430 competitor is on hold indefinitely. A lot of the production car workers and designers have been let go. Even Gordon Murray left...he had been so marginalized that he became frustrated. He. with a bunch of private investors, tried to make a bid for TVR. Could you imagine Murray designed TVRs?

I'll look for those shortly after we see the Caddy Cien and Chrysler ME Four Twelve reach production (never).
