The dealer only offered me $3000 trade in value for my 1993 Prelude VTEC with 72,000 miles, one owner, very clean.
For $3000 I think I'll just keep it around.

That's crazy. They could easily sell that car for $5000. Super clean and probably the nicest of its type in the USA.

I'm thinking they'll introduce a 6-spd auto with the MMC in a few years (and put it in a few more vehicles as well).
That said, really, the only usable thing it gives you is a higher top gear. These cars can't handle any more power down low and with six gears, you end up putting too much there in first gear (and even second). Torque steer dominates and you have lots of tire slip if you punch it from a stop.
Slightly better fuel economy but from a performance standard, I'll bet the Accord is as fast as the others and probably still more fuel efficient as well.

Also keep in mind that trade in is part of the whole transaction. I've seen plenty of posts on this forum where someone says they felt like the dealer was screwing them on a trade in. Meanwhile they are getting the new car for $3 over dealer cost. The dealer is basically giving a good deal on the new car with the intent to make it up on the trade in. Saying what they are offering on the trade in without providing details on the new car part of the transaction is only half the deal. It's kind of like saying, "I paid $22k out the door for my new Accord. I got a good deal!" Well if that was for a base car, the deal sucked. If that was for a loaded V6 hybrid, that was a great price.
Finally, for $3000, if the car is in good condition I agree with you, it's not worth parting with it.
