Default 2008 Audi R8 vs. 2007 Jeep SRT8

http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drive...rticleId=122969

[QUOTE]One's a slippery minx of a two-seater. The other has a 1,050-pound maximum payload, seats five and looks like it was carved by Eskimos. Your first reaction is that the 2008 Audi R8 and the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 have nothing in common.

Think again. What other American nameplate offers the Audi R8's fundamental layout of all-wheel drive paired with a V8? That's right

I think these random comparos are entertaining to read. No one is going to cross-shop these two. Very different animals.

Geez. The Jeep had 0.84 skidpad and slalomed at 61.9mph? That's really sad. And the 128 ft braking distance means that jerk in the SRT8 won't even be able to stop faster than the Camry they're tailing at 30mph over the speed limit.

And that was before the brakes faded from the first pass.

It's my firm belief that if you're going to speed, your car better be able to do everything BETTER than a regular car can.

Just another indication that obese vehicles aren't sports cars.

In the August 1985 issue of Road & Track, the Fiero was tested against 6 other sports cars. The slalom results (MPH): Honda Civic CRX Si: 62.5 Toyota MR2: 61.6 Pontiac Fiero: 61.5 Alfa Romeo Graduate: 58.4 Bertone X1/9: 58.3 Mazda Rx-7 GSL: 57.2
So the SRT slaloms as well as a 20+ yo Fiero?

I'm going to find some more slalom times.

Neither of these hatchbacks enjoys a clear advantage when it comes to braking or handling. The Mini is slightly better on the brakes with a solid pedal feel and a 115-foot stop from 60 mph. The Volvo isn't far behind with a 117-foot stop, but its soft pedal makes the distance feel longer.

Through the slalom, the Mini has everything going for it: a smaller size, quicker steering, upgraded 17-inch wheels with 205/45R17 Dunlop SP Sport tires plus the optional sport suspension. It comes through with a blistering 68.5-mph run, a fast speed for any car in any class.

Then the Volvo threads through the same set of cones at 69.1 mph. Sure, the body rolls more and more steering input is required, but the speed speaks for itself. It's easy to push the C30 hard thanks to loads of grip from the standard 215/45R18 Pirelli P Zero Rosso tires. It also has a stable, well-sorted chassis (derived from the Mazda 3) and accurate steering. The C30 held its own on the skid pad, too, with a 0.85g versus the Mini's 0.87g.
So the Volvo C30 out-slaloms, out-skidpads, and out-brakes the Jeep SRT8.... Why not just get a Camaro and be done with it?

I still don't get "sports trucks."

Interesting read. Sounds like they just wanted an excuse to test an R8 again.

Why hate on the SRT8? So it doesn't stop as fast or slalom as well as tiny cars, but it does all these things much better than any other SUV. It doesn't take an SRT8 to go fast enough or be stupid enough to tail someone in a Camry at 30mph over the speed limit.

I much rather have an SRT8 tailgating me than 99% of other trucks/suv's.

The car is what it is, nobody said it was a sports car, it is a sporty SUV.
