Im going to buy a first bike next spring. I plan to buy Honda. Im not impressed with the new CBR600RR....would rather prefer the R6 styling (in black), but it has to be a Honda.
What do you guys think about the VFR as a first bike? I love the 25th anniversary color combo...So ol'skool. VFR is more comfortable for the long haul but is still track capable?
First bike, got it Feb 25th 2006. Still only has 1500 miles on it..
I started out on it... I have never ridden dirt bikes, but I have ridden sport ATVs, BMX and downhill mountain bikes in races and such..
I have dropped it 3 times all at 0-1mph in the parking lot. The reason is I wasnt used to the weight of having to balance something and I had NO idea on what effects braking and such would have on the weight balance of a bike at slow slow speeds.
It can be done, Im a smaller guy (6ft 155lbs) and I can handle the VFR.
With that being said,
I LOVE MY VIFFER!!! I shortened the gears a bit, added a Power Commander and some other things.
The guy is right, any bike you ride(unless your 50yrs old +) you will get accustomed too and you wont find it uncomfortable. Sometimes I want to lower the bars and raise the pegs on the VFR, but thats just me.
The power is great, more than enough to scare you for awhile.
Ive never had it to the track but I rode a friends CBR F4i(2005) and the VFR felt just as "flickable" and more stable through the turns.
Dont worry about the weight of the VFR, the stock exhaust is heavy heavy heavy. about 40lbs. A swap to good after market cat-back exhaust can drop 25-30lbs off the weight of the VFR.

If youve never ridden street bikes or dirt bikes, I HIGHLY recommend the MSF safety course. I just graduated and even though I already knew how to ride, I still learned some things and got a few pointers. Its a really great course to take esp if youve never ridden before!

If your set on buying new than the VFR is a good all around choice for track or touring. Just understand, its not a matter of IF your gonna lay it down, but When. It may just be something as little as dumping it in the driveway, but chances are it happens to everyone. If its your first bike, and you've never ridden before, I would recommend getting used, you can pick up some great deals on earlier model VFR's.

Ugh - I hate that 25th anniversary scheme. I'd much rather white, red, or black (all solid) over that.
This is the bike I will buy when I pull the trigger. It'll allow me to do 300 miles or 3 miles, all in comfort and at high or low speed, with luggage if needed.
