Default 2007 Shelby mustang

Motor Trend reports in the March 2005 issue that the Shelby Mustang will be released as a 2007 model and will be powered by the Ford GT's 550-hp supercharged 5.4L 4V V-8. It will not have IRS as previously planned, but a "beefed up" live axle.
This won't be a horrible handling car even without the IRS. I am sure Griggs and MM will have some real trick parts for the car when it is released or soon after. It will also be a drag racers dream coming with a super charger from the factory and a live axle. What do you guys think it will cost? Do you think GT owners will feel slighted having paid ~200k for a car that will share it's engine with a mustang? The picture in Motor Trend showed a pretty sweet looking ride. If they could keep this thing under 50k....it would be quite the sweet deal.

The 2005 Mustang, has a great chassis and recieved rave reviews in its stock form for handling and track performance. This Shelby Model should be amazing, but I do not see how a this could be around 50G's with motor donated form a 150G car! Lets keep our fingers crossed.

The Ford GT is scheduled to be replaced by the GR1 in 2007 which coincidentally happens to be the same year that the Cobra is to be released. The GR1 is rumored to use a 605 hp V10 which leaves the GT engine available.

The mustang may not get the exact same Ford GT engine but it could certainly get some sort of derivative. The leading rumor is a 5.4L S/C V8.

I would liketo know where you got the info the GT would be replaced by the GR1. I have seen the GR1 and from it's stats, front engine and the fact it weighs a lot more then GT it doesn't seem like a replacement at all. It seems to be another car all-together. It is much more of an actual GT then the "GT" is!

I am with Bullitt, that price point sounds low.

I am disappointed that the IRS is once again DOA. It really helped the Fox chassis handle better, but was a liability at the strip. I know of a few 03 Cobras that gave up half shafts due to wheel hop. The idea of offering the IRS as an option was good, too.

As for SVT, the article indicated this top-line Mustang will not carry the SVT badge (if I read it right). As a marketing tool SVT was top notch and the competition has noticed (thus V-line at Caddy and PVO at Dodge, etc.). I wonder what the long term plans are. The MazdaSpeed 2.3 Turbo would be sweet in a Focus with AWD or in the new Fuzion, assuming the right suspension is added--the Mazda6 is not a track car.

Or put the 2.3 turbo in a no frills lightweight mustang with Konis and we have a modern reincarnation of the badass SVO.
