It's true that most VWs are very unreliable. I owned a '96 Jetta before buying the S, and it gave me nothing but problems. I heard many bad things from all other years as well. On the other hand though, I have heard very little negative things about the TDi, and usually I heard raves about how different they are from the other VWs. Yeah I did, but that's your reasoning, I was trying to see what his reasoning was. You at least gave proof and what not to justify your opinions toward it. He, however, gave no help to the OP.

You what a car that dominates a GLI all around the place for $5K less.. buy a Fit. rated one of the most reliable cars made. 40 mpg achievable, rated the funnest car made under $20K. Massive more "trunk" space and.. well.. its a Honda and not a VW

it's quite hard to believe how much TDI owner thinks their car is so much better made than the run of the mill vw just because it's running on diesel.
well, maybe the motor is more robust than conventional gas buner(which is not that hard to do btw) but everything around it is still vw, right?
never have any luck with them, most of my friend with them end up getting something else due to various issue with them.
not to mention diesel in here cost even more than premium gas
