Call me crazy, but does anyone else miss the days when econo-shitboxes were ... well econo shitboxes?
Give me a utilitarian car, slab-sides and all with a minimalistic interior and just enough motor to see this plus side of 40 to the gallon on the highway, for a cheap price -- make it reliable and I am happy.
Instead we keep getting these cars that look like the progeny of Batman and Robin, for a premium with increasingly poor fuel economy. What gives?

What ever happened to trucks that you're just supposed to beat the hell out of?

That being said, I think the new design is very cool looking. I own the much maligned '02 Si, and I have to tell 'ya, it's a terrific automobile. The hatchback is practical, it's an unusual looking car.
For my money, yes, it's ok for an economy car to be economy car, but why does it have to look boring? I personally like an unusual looking automobile. Esthetics of an object are important (to me).

Hi Guys
Those pics at the start of the thread are the production ready pics...not a prototype. So, the triangular exhausts stay as do the funky dials inside. A more complete presentation can be found on Honda's UK website.
The car will be initially offered with four different engines - 1.4, IMA, 2.2 Diesel and 1.8 Vti. The 1.8 will be capable of a sub 9 sec 0-60 time and still return 41 miles per UK gallon.
My contact at Honda UK says that this five door version will hit the showrooms in Dec and the three door will follow in mid 2006. At that time, Honda will be launching the Civic Type RR, which will feature a 2.4 Vtec.
So, I think I'll have one of those in vivid blue for my next beater
