I don't think the 3-Series will ever NOT make Car & Driver's 10 Best list.

The Accord is even more so. It's been on there the longest, and rightfully so.

They just added a "Muscle Car" category? I've never seen it before in there.

Total BS--There's six categories for sedans and only two for sports cars (sorry, if they nominated the TSX it's not a sports car category).

And the RX-8 top sports coupe? Umm, it has 4 doors and 4 door handles. How is that a coupe? (Just because it gets 13 mpg doesn't make it a Ferrari.)

Here's my nominations:

Sports Sedan (Evo)
Sports Coupe (C6)
Muscle Car (Mustang)
Track Car (Elise)
Family Car (Legacy GT)
Wagon (300C)
Luxury Car (RL)
Luxury Sports car (M5)
Economy Car (tC)
Exotic Car (Ford GT)

Well it certainly is deserving...it has been the measuring stick in that category for years and I certainly don't see that changing in the next few years. While I don't particularly like the look of the E90 3 series BMW has upped the hp and continues to improve on an already fantastic car. While I don't agree with all of the pics above the BMW 3 series will remain a staple in the marketplace. Let's hope BMW doesn't put themselves out of business with more ugly crap like the current 5 series. It's a good thing the new M5 is a rocket ship because it's ugly as hell.

I think the car mags have a lot of sponsorship pressure to keep highlighting new products.... and mainstream ones that the masses can afford and obtain without a long waiting list.

Part of their goal is to get people excited about buying NEW cars.

Have you ever seen the site: newcartestdrive or something like that? It pretty much only says positive things about cars they review so that the manufacturers can quote them on their sites.

I don't think it's quite as nefarious as sponsorship pressure, but I agree that they do want to print what their readers are interested in, and we're interested in the latest and greatest, not a car they've already been writing about for years on end.

I'm not too keen on their switch to ten discrete categories -- I also prefer the focus on sports cars. I'm stunned that the Elise didn't win anything after all the accolades it got from Car and Driver and other magazines.

Honda is kicking butt. You know when they have a "best truck/van/SUV" the Odyssey will win and maybe the MDX/Pilot

Props to the Mustang and 300 for offering a lot of car for not a lot of money.

I think the Boxster is better than SLK, this is one of the few times the Boxster didn't make it.

BMW was on the list for a very long time, then the car design went in the toilet and everyone stopped buying BMWs, so there are no BMW's on this year's list. BMW car sales are down like 50% in 2004, and BMW is only buoyed by its truck sales, but have you seen the new X5? It is hideous!
