Default 2005 Boxster S optioning/config. question...

been conversing with a fellow board member for a couple of days now about the relative merits of the 86 (!) individual options available on the Boxster S.

if you had to option the car, what would you select??

money is relatively no object, but at some point, it would be stupid to option a boxster beyond the price of a 911/911S - so keep it real.

we are both contemplating making the switch to a box-s, but the option list is down right rediculous.....and confusing.

Adaptive sport seats (or at the very least sport seats)
Heated seats
Rear section of center console in exterior color (looks better)
Sport Steering Wheel
Door finishers in leather
BOSE

how about the PASM?

our list was:

Hardtop
19" Carrera Classic Wheels
PASM
Bi-Xenons
Wind Blocker (though many say the stock one sucks)
Sport Seats
Sport Wheel
Sports Chrono Plus
Short Shifter
Park Assist (more of a "why not?" decision)
Heated Seats (same)

we didn't want any "fluff"

Check Rennlist forums for a decent discussion on PASM v. non-PASM. There was also a brief remark about the 987s handling with 18" wheels v. 19" wheels.

Also the rumor is Porsche will make an announcement on 2/24 about the coupe version if that has any bearing on your decision.

The short shifter is damn expensive (something like $760). You are better off buying a B&M unit for about a 1/3 of that & putting it in yourself.

thanks, i checked out rennlist (still perusing).....BUT, i came across a few threads (don't know how to link them) and they have NOTHING nice to say about the S2000.

some guy even boasted about how his base boxster "blew" one away in the twisties.

some guys even go so far to say "it's just a honda", "no soul", etc.

just sayin'.....

my boxster s would have:

full leather interior
preferred package plus (heated seats, bose, hids, and other stuff)
sports seats (i dont know if the adaptive seats are worth the $2500 more, maybe steve c could explain this for us)
sports steering wheel
PCM

hardtop is questionable... as is PASM. i dont know how many times i would adjust the dampening of the shocks, most likely i would set it stiff and leave it at that.

that said... i would prefer the coupe over the convert. i have a hardtop on my s2000 and i RARELY take it off. i think the s2000 will be my only and last convertable ever.

The Boxster S that did so well in the R&R comparison test, by the way, cam equipped with PASM according to the notes. I don't recall if it has the 19" wheels, however.

Bi-Xeon - $990
PASM - $1,990
Shifter - $765
Heated seats - $480
Sports seats - $670
BOSE audio - $950

$5,836 total in options.

On the old Boxster, you could only get ABD (virtual LSD) with PSM. PSM is standard on the new Boxster, but I'd do some research if ABD is as well, or if it's only available with PASM or some other package.
