Sickness, I am getting one the day it comes to my dealer! I have a 2000, and loved it, this is probably that much better. LIVE TRAFFIC reports !! SICK....(although I have that in my s2000)

Interesting that TOV would compare it to the lower end cars that Acura is not aiming at themselves. Then again, these are the same folks who once upon a time claimed the 04 S2000 was making 20+ more horsepower ... I wonder if they are still sticking to that line of bullshit, but can't imagine they are givne the subsequent dynos that indicate otherwise.
Acura has one again missed the mark. Until the RL has a V8 in a RWD platform it will never compete with any BMW, Mercedes ... or sadly even Lexus.

V8 RWD luxury sedans are an extreme niche market and last I checked, there isn't one anywhere near the RL's price range. What *IS* in the RL's price range are a variety of 200-240hp 6-cylinder sedans that the RL appears to stack up extremely well against.
Comments like yours are as old as dirt; pursuing a new niche rather than competing within somebody else's seems like a foreign concept here. That's strange because the S2000 itself carved out its own territory, rather than going after the extremely-well-defined $40k roadster market that already existed in 2000. The RL similarly seems to carve out a unique position - all-wheel-drive and 300 horsepower in the $40s for what appears to be a full-size luxury sedan. If I were in the market for a E320, 530i or GS300, the RL would give me reason to pause: it's faster, more modern, better equipped, less expensive and offers AWD standard.

I would have to agree. Selling a AWD luxury car seems to be a step in the right direction to drag the masses out of their SUVs that owners may be tiring of.
People that come out of SUVs consider RWD "dangerous" during those 1 or 2 days a year when it snows meaning that they would never even consider a rwd car.
Think of all the other cars that are getting awd.

I think the new A6 will be a player in this segment. You can get it with a V8 optional.
To me the LS430 is the bogie in this class, the RL will cost around $10K less for very little difference in performance, size, or luxury.
Of course this is all in theory. We'll have to see how it drives, but to me the RL looks like a great car, more of a alternative car to the status qou instead of a "me too" cars we have already from Lexus, Infiniti, Jag, MB, BMW, Caddilac etc...

The 545, e500 cost 20 grand more than the RL equally optioned. The sales of MOST luxury cars, including BMW and Benz is MAJORITY smaller motors (E320, 530i, etc)
All acuras (except the previous gen RLs and NSXs) are/were #1 in its class. The new RL is no exception, and will sell like hotcakes.
300HP is NOT bad at all, considering the 545 has what? 325hp? And the E500 has 302hp? Wow....big difference
How did acura miss the mark? The AWD is surely a selling point for a lot of people, myself included. I can get a car that look good, reliable, interior 10X better than the BMW or Benz, for 20 grand less.
How exactly did they miss the mark? The 330 is a better car than the TL type S according to you, but the TL sold 2.3 times more cars than BMW (330).....
