2004 RX-8 for $14,500 or 2001 S2000 for $14,800?

Reliability-wise I would feel more comfy with a 2001 S2000 than a 2004 RX-8.

Heck I'd even be more relaxed with a 50k miles S2000 than a brand new RX-8.

The S2000 is holding its value pretty well.

Convertibles tend to depreciate faster than their coupe counterparts.

Look at car listings of E46 M3 verts vs coupes 996 911 cabs vs coupes and see how much money lost during the same amount of time.

Another good thing about the S2000....

This is a pretty worthless post if you're not going to point out any problems. What specifically are you talking about?

From my friend with an 04 RX-8, his issues to date have been condensation in both tail lamps, replaced under TSB, and a faulty ECU reading from a bad gas cap (seal broke) and the tire pressure monitor (TSB for that). Other than that the car is perfect.

Rotary engines also have a characteristic of flooding if you start them and shut them off while they are still warming up, but if you know about it its not an issue. He gets 15 mpg city, 23 hwy, not stellar by any means, but it comes with the car.

Looking at all the TSBs for 01 S2000s and for the 04 RX, there are actually less TSBs and "issues" with the RX. Plus, with an 01 S, you have a 6 yr old top to worry about - clouded plastic and tears are probably looming large, but that comes with the car.

Yup! Those rotaries man... Even if it wasn't a rotary, I'd go for the s2000 since it has less miles (an 01 car having less miles than a 04?)

I'm sorry but you cannot state that an RX-8 is a more reliable car than an S2000.

I'm one of the RX-8's biggest fans and LOVE that car but it's build quality and reliability is not the same level as the S2K's.

Look at consumer satisfaction on different websites like edmunds and epinions for people who have had both cars over 3+ years.

True, the RX-8 isn't as bad as people say, but the S2000 is above-average reliability wise, especially for a sports car.

I drive my S2000 only 7000 per year. It depends on who owns the car and the type of driving. Even with my low miles, it's about 50% highway driving, no track driving and fairly easy miles, my brakes etc. still on my first set, most everything still on the first set of except tires.

Can't be sure how much abuse these used cars have, it's hard to say.

Quick Reply: 2004 RX-8 for $14,500 or 2001 S2000 for $14,800?
