I guess I would agree the shifter thing is subjective then...

I have driven the 987S for 2 years, which has the same shifter as 997 and Cayman. While it is better than 996 and 986's, it is unacceptable enough that I have the B&M ssk (which is essentially the same as OEM ssk except it costs $550 less) installed within 2 days of taking delivery of the car. Better, but still far from the bolt-action, short and precise shift action in S2000's gearbox.

Personally, I wouldn't described the 987S gearbox smooth as much as rubbery. Isolated. Plastic casings in the shifter mechanism "give play" on shift, adding to the already indirect feel. I will say I haven't grind a gear yet, which I occasionally did in very rare occasion in the S. And I agree it is much better than BMW's.

How are you liking your 987S so far?

I just posted on that Ray S Rennlist thread.

How is that I can say the same things on both s2ki.com and Rennlist.com, yet on s2ki.com people accuse me of being a Porsche fanboy, while on Rennlist.com people accuse me of being a Honda fanboy?

I have no idea especially since you are coming from years of driving both cars and I'm sure many other fine cars, but I can relate to you in that everyone online pretty much hate me with a passion.

Does anybody else sometimes get frustrated knowing that since 03-04 the Boxster S started with 250 hp, then 258, then 280, & now 295 hp, yet the S2000 is still the same after all these years. Even when the M Roadster came out (and it was the Z3 platform at the time) it started with 240 hp, and is now 330 hp. The S2000 back in the day could go nose up in performance with these other cars now in a straight line it can't. While it is still a good value, it just isn't as much as it once was.

I think if you browse around you will see their is a ton of frustration with honda in the handling of the S2000 and NSX.

I like your posts I think you're usually pretty objective.

Just my observation, but it seems a lot of people here have moved on to higher hp cars over the last 3 years. And there has been thread after thread of people here voicing their frustration over the lack of progress. Myself included.
