Cayman.
The Cayman has a better shift feel than the Boxster? I thought they shared the same drivetrain?

The 987 Cayman / Boxster has a nicer shifter than the 986 Boxster. Still not as good as the S2000's, but better.

I venture to say that I like the 987/997 short shift option in the Porsches better than the rather notchy S2000's. Heck, I'm even liking my 996 SSK better because, again, it's not as notchy and hasn't grinded yet.

Yeah, I was deliberately trying not to offend the S2000-shifter-is-god crowd with that last comment. I'd venture to say that whether the S2000's shifter is better than the Caymans is a subjective judgment, based largely on how important short throws are to you.

Well, I will stay true to my style and candidly state that the S2000 shifter is no longer the best shifter in the world. It was good when it came out, but others have stepped up their game and done it better.

The Cayman/997 ssk units are much smoother in shift action and you don't fear grinding the thing.

The BMWs still suck, though, even with SSK. My E46 M3 was tolerable with the UUC unit, but no where near as good as the Porsches with ssk.

Pedal, do you have a Cayman now?

Check the Ray S guy's post on Rennlist - he owns a Boxster and he's such a die hard cheerleader of it he doesn't know the brake pedal from the go pedal LOL

damn you...now you are going to make me want to post over there!

Does that ray guy even track his car? I had an interesting conversation at PIR with a bunch of Rennlist guys about the attitudes over there with regards to 993 vs 996 vs 997 and 911* vs 986/7..it was pretty funny.

That is why I like the track. People give respect where respect is due. They don't look at cars in terms of who has more money or whatever it's about performance and ability. the attitude is so much better vs the blingers, present company of WRS2k excluded of course! They were very cool when I passed them in my evo. And I didn't rag on them everyone has different goals at the track.

The interweb warriors and Zaino kings just talk a bunch of shit to each other because they don't actually know how the cars compare. It's all about which marquee makes your penis look bigger...lame.

They're mostly good guys, but definitely more of a Dick Cheney crowd than S2ki.com.

I was amazed at how typical Ray was in his negative assessment of the S2000 pointing toward the lack of grunt under 6K which is absolutely ridiculous coming from someone driving a Boxster. Then he tries to prove his point by assuming I spent $6K on supercharging my S2000 because I was looking for more torque.

Us S2000 vets know that SCing this car does nothing to increase torque out of VTEC and that the extra dose of air simply further accentuates the stock torque/hp curves.

As much as I like the guy internet style, I found it somewhat disappointing given that he is an avid track nerd. So I've owned "torquier" cars since, but you know what, any sort of n/a engine on a sports car isn't going to be torquey in the first place save for those with huge engines like the Corvettes. Those minivans can keep up off the line to 60 unless I'm aggressive with the throttle which ain't all that impressive to talk about if you ask me.

I try to keep it real the best I can. I like all kinds of cars for what they are and my love/respect for the S2000 or any other cool Honda hasn't waned because I have since owned German cars.

They all have something unique to bring to the table and I enjoy them for what they are from the performance side, but no doubt always pretty them up because I'm insecure like that.

Yea, totally spot you on the single piston brakes comment as if the Boxster brakes are all that big in the first place. They are cuter, yes, and they too require better pads and fluid just like them Honda singles.

I love the Boxster S, I love the Cayman, I love them all, but don't poop on car X to make car Z seem better when clearly both are in the same class that offer up something a lil' diff.
