I'm glad they went back to the side pipes like the viper originally had. Supposedly they no longer have the 5 cyl. u-haul truck sound that made Dodge go away from the side pipes with the original vipers. Cool throwback to the Cobra. Hopefully they made it sound something like the GT40 concept since that sounds absolutely badass!

WOW! I saw the prelim. car mag pics, but it looks drop dead gorgeous! Too bad I won't likely be able to afford one anytime soon.

I just got 2 questions:
Where's the block heater?
Do they make snow tires big enough?

They sure are sweet. I read the hood was redesigned because it cost too much, something like $6K, which sounds ridiculous but true as it was the second most expensive item in the car (after the engine).

Siegel,
As far as I'm aware, these new 2003+ Vipers are real ragtops, unlike the little folding curtins, toupee top thing of the previous generation. I believe the GTS model will introduced 2-3 years down the line to breath new life into the model, as it did before. I love the VIper...with its raw, visceral power, but one thing that discouraged me from it before is it's quality. If you talk to owners, there's a plethora of issues ranging from cheap interior pieces to engines catching on fire to broken frames etc.! If DCX can address these, this car will no doubt be the epitome of AMerican muscle cars! As for the looks, I was hoping something more in line with the GTS-R concept, so when I saw this introduced, I was a little upset. It has grown on me in time, but still...

Hi Sime!

Long time since we spoke!!

The cars are actually coupes, because under the black vinyl sits a hard top!!! Instead of the regular convertible, there is a sheet metal folding roof under it (like Mercedes SLK and new SL), so I doubt if they'll bring out a real coupe. Maybe later it will be sold without the 'fake' canvas??

I've checked out the car when it was on a hoist. The side pipes are very special also. It is straight from the engine (no mufflers if they didn't change anything yet) with active noice cancellation speakers near the exhaust ends. Very high tech indeed!!!
