I was out on the highway the other day when a S55 AMG pulled up beside me... I reached over and switched off the traction control. We are about neck and neck on the highway and I could feel the tension building... We both hit the pedal to the floor - .1 second reaction time. The Q took off like a jet with two afterburners... The S55 (354 hp) pulls ahead a half car length, but I stuck in there. He put his window down and gave a healthy "thumbs up" with his face still in shock that I was that close. Next, a modded Harley sees what

Just remember that's the old AMG S55. There's a new sheriff in town.
S55 with SC V8 493hp and 516 TQ
or
S600 V12 tt 493hp and 590 TQ
MB realized that 354hp is not cutting it vs Lexus and Infiniti and Jag etc...

but I still think if that Q had a benz emblem on it, Mercedes dealers would be sold out in the showrooms

I agree, considering they are one of the most reliable out there.
I say give it a few more years as G35's and FX's help build up the brand image more.

has infiniti always had a full-size luxury sedan?? i remember there being a Q before the remake in '02, but nothing prior to that (but that's just me and my memory).
if so, how was it relative to the other offerings in it's class - mainly in terms of performance?
i.e. was it overweight and underpowered or anything like that, that would "turn-off" potential suitors?
what i'm getting at is that once you build a "dog", it's tough to get the product back in the public's eye.

It has always been viewed as a bit smaller and much less reliable than the competition. I have no idea if they have fixed this, but I have known a couple folks with the mid 90's versions and that was enough to keep me from ever considering one.
Infiniti did at least give the car some power in relation to what else was out there, in particular the LS400.
I think the problem Inifinit faces with the Q is that Lexus builds a better car for similar money which takes away most if not all of the sales to folks who are not already looking for a German car in that price range.
Honda really has no dog in this race. The RL is a misfit that sits between classes and goals.
