Default 2002 M3 vs. 2005 Evo VIII

Hey all,
I am in the process of selling MY01 S2000, in search of something a little larger, and am in a delima of deciding. Here's what I'm come to so far:

USED 2002/3 BMW M3

Posatives:
Resale on BMW are excellent, especially the M3
6spd
330hp
Luxerious options such as:heated seats, NAV, SMG, etc....
Luxery and speed combined into one

Negatives:
Pricey...used ones with 30k or so are still going for around 35k.
Maintinence
Not having a warranty(could be possible)
The used factor(not sure about its past, maintinence records,etc...)

2005 Mitsubishi Evo VIII

Posatives:
Brand new
Warranty for 30/60/100k
AWD
Turbo...the BOV sound...mmmmmmmmmm
4 door, and room for others in the back seat
SSL Package: Sunroof, 7speaker sound, Leather(Leather Recaro's )

Negatives:
5spd
Resale value would drop as soon as I drive it off the lot
Has the "Tuner" image to it
Big wing
High maintinence due to turbo, Brembro's, etc...

I was almost decided on a Evo8, but I have since been looking at M3's and loving those.

BTW, I have $15,000 to put down on either.

So...what do you think?

Honestly, I'd get an M5. If not, go for the M3

Evo VIII.... It's new...it's fast...and it's what you really want..

The M3 is a beautiful piece of machinery, but cost of ownership is high....and it's going to be dated in one year when the e90 is rolling around the streets..

JMO....

I'd go for the M3 with the extended warranty plan if it comes with it or is still upgradable.

If not, I'd go for the EVO.

Yea...I'd still be SUPER happy with an Evo..but I like the genre the M3 falls in...sport luxery.

I got about 75k, and I'd like to put as much of that away as possible towards a house in the next year or so.

Which would be a "lower cost" vehicle overall?

i'm a fan of buying 2 year old cars. if you buy new, you will likely be upside down the first 2 years of a 5 year loan.

on a 2 year old car, you will probably be upside down only 6 months or so, maybe less.

I'd get the M3. They have a 4 year warranty, and I think the early engines are longer than that. With the evo, you've got depreciation and higher maintenance to worry about. with mitsu cash hungry, count on them being a little stingy with the warranty.

Amen to that... in fact, the way that they produce power by itself makes a huge difference altogether...

Those are $40-45K and while they are great cars he specifically said the M3...not 3 series. If somebody who wants an M3 buys a 3 series and is performance minded they will end up trading it for an M or always wanting. I would be uncomfortable buying the M3 if not under warranty unless your cost of ownership is not really an issue. The EVO is great from a performance and bang for your back standpoint it is just outright ugly IMO. The M3 is one of the best daily drivers on the planet. It is comfortable, fairly luxurious and an all around great performer. My only higher ranked daily driver that is practical (with possible exception of price) would be an Aston...which I am going to look at this weekend. But like I said, STAY AWAY from the M3 unless you have a warranty or the means to keep it well maintained. Keep in mind the oil it uses in $9-12 a quart and it drinks 7 of them and I just replaced my rear tires which cost about $750 after mounting and balancing. I go through a set of rears about every 10K miles. The VANOS system needs serviced every 24K miles and I can promise you that's not cheap. If something goes wrong and you don't have the warranty, it will be EXPENSIVE to fix.
