2002 BMW 7's getting 'low balled' on wholesale market
#22
My wife and I drove a 7-series over the summer (along with just about every other non-M BMW model) at some drive event over the summer and the 7 was our least favorite. When they say that it is confusing to operate some of the controls, I think that is an understatement. Given more time with the car however, I am sure it is more intuitive. It was great to drive, but even shifting into gear was needlessly complex. Unlike most, I do like the new look.

Is $62K really THAT bad? As I see it, the problem with the 7-series, S-classes, etc. is the 5-series, E-classes, etc. Why would someone want a used 7, S, etc. when they could get a brand-spanking new loaded V8 5,E, etc.? I, personally, don't see the appeal of the 7, S, etc. at all. The V8 5, E, etc. offer just about everything the large models do for $20K less. Can it really come down to size? The 5, E, etc. are plenty roomy. Also, I see tons of 7, S, etc. everyday and can count on one hand the number of them I see each month with people in the back seat. Maybe it's just me, but the 7, S, etc. do nothing for me. I'd rather have a 5, E, etc. and pocket the xtra dough or spend it on another car, a boat, my house, travel, etc.

Not totally on the subject, but I saw my first new 5-series in the flesh today, and I have to say I find it to be much uglier than then new 7 series. Will this mean the new 5's will suffer a similar drop in value due to their styling? BMW's have always had great resale value, so in some way this has to also affect the appeal of the car.
This might not be such a bad thing after all. It just means we might just be seeing a little less Bangle with future BMWs.

This is a horrible turn of events for BMW. So many BMW owners have crossed over to Mercedes now that BMW's market share has suffered. Those lost owners will be really hard to get back too.
BMW will be in a damage control mode for years to come.
All IMHO, of course.
