WAY cooler looking than the Z3/M Roadsters.
Big thumbs up, but that rear subframe issue (+ semi-trailing arms, + hard to find) knocked the Z3 MCoupe off my shopping list

I do not have any problems with the rear suspension setup at all.

I can control my powerslides-drifts soooooo well with the M Coupe.

They are hard to find, you just have to look.

It's funny to read your signature in a thread talking about M Coupes. I first met Steve when I raced him in his '98 M Coupe (I won BTW). Then later I drove his 01 S54 M Coupe from St Louis to Denver as a favor. He's actually a pretty funny guy in real life, and that picture is not him..
First car was a 99 ... second was an 02 that I never should have sold. You did win against the 99 by a lot .... The 02 was a real disappointment after the modded 99 in terms of handling. A wallowy pig. Shoulda, woulda, coulda fixed it but got lazy.

The above comments about the suspension are not fair. Saying a design is bad just because it is not the latest and greatest is poorly placed. What would you tell all of the folks with

^^ Welcome back, Stevec, whom many thought to be a black man in the old avatar.

Ok here we go....lol First off I had a 2000 m coupe that I loved to death but just got sick of real fast with all the probs that car offered for the price I paid. I was looking into trading it in on a nsx for the longest time but after take one out for a ride I did not like it as much in the handling side. Yes I know the they are was dif. in the setup but still did not like the feel. Still thoe I love the look of the nsx but no matter where the coupe was I was always asked lots of Q's about the car. In the end I sold it to a friend who had a big booner for the car from day one and got my s2000. The way this sits now I like it more then the coupe. Like I always say thoe "to each his own"

I totally understand that the Z3/MCoupe's semi-trailing arms are workable, but there is no doubt they are a *compromise*. It is (was) disappointing that BMW chose to simply throw the old E30 rear suspension in back of these cars rather than upper/lower control arms.

The semi-trailing arms weren't nearly as big a drawback to me as the scarcity of coupes and the rear subframe issue.

BTW, my ancient 240Z has Chapman struts superior to ancient Porsches' semi-trailing arms (which were at least as responsible for those cars' severe lift-throttle oversteer tendancies as their rear weight bias). It is *very* fun to pass modern machinery in an old Datsun! New cars (incl. s2000) are too heavy...

It's funny how you love or hate this design.

It seems most hate the design

I myself think its one of the sexiest cars ever made. I'm jealous

I love that rear stance

No amount of mods in the S2000 will make the steering feel as communicative as in the M Coupe.
True. That's the biggest weakness of the S2000 as a driver's car. The steering is well weighted and precise enough to accurately place the car, but there's no great communication coming back from the road to your hands.
