2001 740i vs 2001 S430?
I'm contemplating these two cars as a winter car, or when I need to truck people around.
Any owners of either? what are your thoughts?
I hate to say the allure of the pimp factor of the S Class is calling me, but I'm concerned it may be boring to drive compared to the BMW, and reliability as well..
I don't know much about either, so feel free to add your opinions.
thanks

740 all the way~
740 has a lot of power. Enough power to impress you for being such a heavy car.
But you mentioned you might be using this as a winter car?
You don't want to drive 740 in snow, unless you have snow tires. It sucks horribly on snow
but 740 has
good power
last generation of true bmw heritage before new computer car came out
pimpness
believe it or not this car is pretty reliable
I truly believe 740 looks way better than 430

Thanks for the input guys, I'm kinda swaying back to the 740..
Keep in mind, I'm giving back the S8 it was truely the perfect winter car.

Stick on the right tyres for your situation, and either car will be fine.
I'd go with the 740 with sport package, looks great and handles brilliantly compared to the S.

Take the 7.
I was in the same situation as you were 2 years ago. I drove a S. but, that just don't do much for me. Besides, I wanted a NAV system, and long wheel base car. The Merc's NAV will not work if CD is in the dash. On top of that, 7's NAV can have TV retrofitted. Nothing beats 5PM traffic with Simpson showing on TV.

mike, if you really want to keep the S8, i can talk to wolfgang for you....they'll never unload it at the buyback they're asking - no one's that dumb.
