So, to get awesome gas mileage in your Insight, just buy a gas-guzzling Excursion (I believe it was an Excursion, not an Expedition)!

Or, they should have classes to teach Insight drivers how to change lanes to draft behind SUVs and trucks. It'll be like those little sucker fish that stick on sharks, going from one shark to another for a free ride.

Yep! Perhaps this guy has merely perfected his technique, and with his cryo-treated bumper and frame, feels that a sudden bang into the large SUV or truck in front of him will not really damage the car (it is, after all, a much stronger and efficient vehicle after all that cryo treating)...

That's a pretty cool article. I always wondered what would happen if you were to cryo treat everything in the engine. Sure, it would last longer, but I can also see it having effects on MPG. I don't know about 120, but it would probably increase significantly as cryo treating increases the molecular stability of metals which results in less thermal distortion. The engine probably runs cooler and with less friction, which would account for the increase in fuel economy. Something to think about...

Good points, though not necessarily true. Less thermal distortion is not necessarily a good thing - if you ease the tightness of a sealing surface (such as piston rings), you can actually lose power and efficiency. Also remember that if his sealing surfaces are worn to a certain shape and then the parts are changed, you'll also almost definitely lose power and efficiency.

Bottom line - they probably recorded his peak value, not his consistent fuel average. Coming off a freeway without the motor running could certainly put him in the 100+ mpg area for a few seconds.

Either that or they took his word on it...

I'll cryo my peepee to see if I can last longer.
