The Cayman was OK, but the Turbo does it for me.
I think I'll take the word of the guy who actually owned both.

Unless you really want the raw power and mod potential of the 996tt, I would have to pick the 09 Cayman S. Have you looked at a 997S at all? That might be a good compromise between the two, and you'd still get the updated chassis and interior

I would never buy a porche without a turbo, to me they go hand in hand.
How bout the 996 GT3, 997 GT3 and GT3 Rs, and the Carrera GT I would take any of these over any 996 or 997 Turbo any day (well maybe except for a 964 3.6 Turbo, a 993 Turbo or a 996/ 997 GT2 ) Gawd I love Porsches!!!

Drove the 996GT3. Chose the TT. Gt3 is a great car, and based on the same block config as the TT. The TT just has so much more potential, and is a better street car than the GT3. Track days, take the GT3.

CGT. I tried it. I don't fit. It is just too small for me.

I'd be torn. I'd rather have/own an '09 Cayman S, but you'd have to be nuts to expose yourself to new Porsche depreciation in this economy when you can buy a like new one in the 40's.

I'm not a big fan of any 9x6 cars, but the 996 TT is nonetheless a badass car.

good point chris. i'm not too concerned w/ the depreciation (for now) since i "plan" to keep the car for a good while. of course, saving $20k is undeniable.

i take it, you don't think the upgrades in '09 are worth the premium?

Don't get me wrong, the enhancements are very nice, but value is in the eye of the customer.

I couldn't stomach Porsche pricing in '07, but saved $10K by buying one w/ ~1,000 miles.

I LOVE their cars, but their pricing can be asinine, esp. when you add options.

A nicely equipped '09 could easily reach $75-80K, vs. maybe high 30's-low 40's for a used one. I'll take the slightly used, slightly slower one for 50% off. If the power diff. bugs you, the engine responds well to mods, and the 25 hp (+ some) is easily obtainable w/ I/H/E + reflash.

Main reason for an '09 IMO would be if you want PDK, but I don't.

I planned on keeping my CS forever (and I still may), but my needs have changed, and an M3 sedan or Evo MR would now be a much better fit for my needs. That pretty much happens every time I declare a car or bike a keeper!

Coming from a non-owner or not even test-driven, but I've fondled them both with my hands and eyes:
I could not live with a 911, its too unproportioned. It has a big butt. I see its crazy (while possibly fun) weight distribution each time I glance at one.

The Cayman however, has that perfect distribution with oh so sexy hips. it doesn't have that hideous hump in the back on top like the Boxter.

As far as everything else besides looks? Its a Porsche, so either choice will be simply amazing. I will own a Cayman some day.
