personally, i'm leaning toward the CS mainly because the interior on the 996's are dated (tape deck, tape rack, etc). it's still a nicer place to be than many other cars, but the 987/997 interior is a major upgrade from its predecessor.
friends argue that once you're driving, the interior is a non-factor... a valid point. but if you're stuck in traffic then all you're experiencing is the interior.

I've known two people who got rid of 996TTs because they simply weren't fun at the speeds they could drive them at (<80mph.) On that basis, I'd probably chose the Cayman S. But I can't imagine picking a sports car mostly on the interior....

in addition to the big depreciation hit on a new car, a 440 hp tt 996 would be more fun than creature comforts imo...the PDK would be a nice option on the '09, however

Cayman S handles better, sounds better and has a new car warranty. Against that the 996TT is much quicker, has huge mod potential and lives higher up the Porsche food chain (even used). It's a tough call. For me it would depend heavily on the characteristics of the specific 996 TT (color, condition, options, mileage, history, service records, etc.). Pristine 996 TT with the right color and options would do it for me.

The 996 is my least favorite exterior 911. I'd probably get an 05 997 911 instead.
But of those choices, I'd probably do the Turbo as a daily (AWD and pseudo-backseat.
If just a nice weather car, Cayman S.

im struggling a bit with this decision as well. i think i'd be in the same boat as walkt88 said... a pristine 996tt equipped exactly how i would be hard to pass up.
i test drove an '06 cayman s and loved it. also test drove a friends 996tt and was in utter shock at the raw power... don't know if i loved it though since i was floored by the power (did i like the drive, or just the power?)
ckit, interesting you bring up the '05 997 (both s and non-s). another choice to consider!!
this would be a daily driver for me, and having back seats is not a priority. i like that its a new car, unmolested, w/ full factory warranty. i also like that the '09 CS averages 30+ mpg on the highway... allegedly
