Although you wonder about a company investing $100's of millions of dollars on R&D when they are about ready to go bankrupt, and leave the American market because of poor sales. I guess the Evo is their last hope at doing anything in the Americas, as their other cars sure aren't doing anything.

NO!!! i really wish the Evo will be available in 6spd Manual only...none of that dsg/smg/auto-manual crap so the car can be more exclusive to pure enthusiasts....

i feel the flame coming. but i seriously hope it'll only be available in 6spd manual (not 5spd). and have getrag make the 6spd please.

All of that high tech transmission crap makes these great cars a PITA for grassroots motorsports. Keep it simple, cheap and modular. I hope that they have transmission options.

Not problems with Mitsu here.

'05 EVO VIII: only TSB was for intercooler hose
'96 Eclipse GS-T: 150K 7-Bolt crankwalk free miles with strong compression across all cylinders 165-170

Wow, that's impressive, almost as impressive as this guy I know who has an FD that he regularly races and overboosts a whole lot. The ironic thing is that he got it for dirt cheap off of a friend, and ended up hating the car so is just running it into the ground, but the damn thing still runs perfectly, lol. 140K of extremely hard miles and a lot of boost with bolts ons and still, NO PROBLEMS, lol. Also, wasn't the crankwalk problem and tranny problems were more prevalent in the AWD models.
But I agree with chickenleg, although the DSG is great technology, I think Mitsu is forgetting what brought them to the dance, their appeal with the 9-5 weekend warriors. Granted I'm sure it'll run great numbers still, but what happens when a clutch goes out? I guess we'll just have to see.

Each clutch has different gears. One has 1, 3, and 5. The other has 2, 4, and 6. Upshift or downshift from 3rd, 2 or 4 will be ready for you quickly. Downshift from 5th to 3rd has a slower response time, however, because of the nature of 2 clutches.
Isn't this "dual-clutch?" The title used the wrong term, but the article uses the correct term. Dual cluthc is when the car has to clutches that take turns (imagine alternating hands when slapping a table). Double clutch is when you clutch to get the gear to neutral, and clutch again to get into gear (mostly used for downshifting before synchros were invented). Downshifting is smoother and you can downshift to first gear (which you can't do on a single-clutch downshift for most cars).

I think its kinda dumb. Its not a LeMans or F1 based car, so does it really need a dual-clutch sequential gearbox?

The Evo never has and never will significantly (directly) affect Mitus's revenue.

It does, however, elevate the brand and bring in traffic. That's why they do it.

I dunno. I'm actually looking forward to the DSG. It's not like driving stick is some magical task. I can envision using the EVO as DD in craptastic traffic and having something more of a toy for weekend being a standard.
