Which track? Mario Kart's Haunted Castle?

Let's be real. A 370Z will walk an S2000 stock or mildly modded on a road course and especially on a drag strip.

I am being real. It all depends on who's driving and lets face it, none of us are Schumacher and amateur drivers will almost only certainly drive at their comfort level, doesn't mean that's the same as the car's potential.

My NC MX-5 feels roughly as rigid, has a much roomier interior, and is 300-400 lbs. lighter. Even then, I wouldn't call the NC insanely light - I'll save that superlative for the Exige, Elise, Atom, etc. Stil, the NC was built w/ much greater obsession about weight (alum. front lower control arms, alum. trunk, no spare, weighing every part and shaving grams where they could, etc.)

OTOH, the Cayman S isn't that much heavier, and has much more storage capacity, more luxury, bigger/more powerful engine, bigger brakes, etc. Given it's weight dist., it actually doesn't feel much heavier than the S2000.

bgoetz, what exactly did Honda do aside from installing an aluminum hood to make the S2000 so insanely light?
No one will argue the merits of the Cayman S. However it should feel better than the s2000, seeing as it costs significantly more. 370z is much closer to s2000 in terms of the price point.

No they are not lighter than the S2000.
Honda lists the S2000 at 2864 lbs curb weight on their own website. So, the base Solstice is lighter and is just as stiff.

http://automobiles.honda.com/s2000/specifi...roup=dimensions

The GXP is marginally heavier (+112 lbs) but it's potentially a lot more powerful (290 hp, 340 ft-lbs torque with factory performance ECU and map sensor upgrade) as well.

So, six of one and half a dozen of another.

I would have to disagree.

Track newbies generally corner slower (have no idea what a RWD can do through a corner) but have no problem pinning the throttle on the straight sections. So, actual handling and cornering ability are used less than power by a newb.

In other words, a newb will generally be faster in a more powerful car, regardless of how poorly it handles. They'll usually only corner at their personal comfort level which is usually well below the capability of the car.

The Porsche Boxster S weights slightly more, but has two trunks, and is dead quiet.
The two trunk thing makes cargo space seem large until it comes time to try to efficiently pack two trunks

Well, there aren't a lot of roadsters but the Solstice/Sky is similar in size and power output and roughly as rigid.
The more comparable versions (i.e. not the base versions) are actually heavier. They all have zero trunk space with the top down

The entire car is designed around putting as much as they could in the smallest lightest package. Yeah the Miata is lighter, but look at the size difference. Everytime I pull up to one of them I feel like I am pulling up next to a go cart

I really find myself to be realistic about cars, including the ones that I have and do own. I will openly admit that there are a good amount of cars in the same catagory, including the 370 Z that are HANDS DOWN faster than the S2k. I am just going to come out and say it though, IMO the S2k is the best designed roadster EVER .

This.

Sorry. I know you love your S, but numbers don't lie.

So it took ten years, a blower and then a reflash to beat the S?
Ah yes, how relevant: a car that we don't get anymore and isn't directly comparable (year to year) with the Solstice and MX-5 or any other CURRENTLY (or built within the past year) car.

If you want to go down that road, we can start bringing up cars from all over the planet, built within the last ten years, and see how that goes down.

Or we could keep it relevant, as I've done.

Even if you did bring cars from all over, what else would there be in the roadster catagory??
