My brother and I are in our Mid 30's and while I have always enjoyed the toys, he has recently been bitten by the bug. He is planning on getting an 03 Vette Convertible. I recently bought an 03' S2000 and really like it. Having owned 20+ cars including several Miata's, 944 Turbo, 5.0 Mustang, etc. the S2k is my favorite so far.

Stock vs. Stock I know he will smoke me...but how ugly will it be? What about from a roll? If I SC the s2ki then what would happen? Just a friendly sibling rivalry.

A "regular" Vette is about a low to mid 13 second car (if you magazine race). The quickest reported STOCK S2000 has been about 13.7 sec. With even 4.44 gears, the S "could" be close. With only a S/C, it would also be close and perhaps "might" be quicker if the S was fully tuned. With both gears and a S/C, I think the S would have no problem.

j/k....With a SC kit I could see the S pulling on a C5 convertible.
Don't worry about that, though. Just wait two years and his car will be rattling and squeaking and yours will still be rock solid.

I don't think it would take that long. I've seen a 1 month old C5 rattle as it drove past me.

The squeaking and rattling is what I tell him I don't like about the vette...he knows that's a problem but he really likes the feel of a vette. So I told him that he should go with what is most important to you....feel is a good reason to buy a sports car.

It seems like you guys think that the vette and S2k are a closer race than I thought. I really thought the vette would walk or run away from an S2k. Maybe I thought a convertible might be closer but still didn't think it would be a "race".

With an SC there's actually a chance I could pull away from him?

Screw superchargers, go turbo, then you'll have no problem with the stock vette, and you will run with Z06s all day long. So if your gonna spend that kinda money go turbo. If you wanna stay n/a you can get to be about as fast as a C5 vette, but not much more and you have to be a really good driver to handle the gearing.

I have seen 13.0 @ 111 in an issue of Car and Driver where they compared the Boxter S, Corvette Convertible, SLK32, and M Roadster. I have also heard about drivers running 12.8 @ 112...bone stock down to the paper air filter.

Stock, he will own you. If you get a supercharger, he will still beat you.

You are going to need a turbo or supercharger (turbo will be the better/faster route), all the typical bolt-ons, race gas, and some badass tuning to beat him.
