02 IS300 vs 03/04 WRX
My neighbor is an autobody guy. He fixed up an IS300 5-speed sport package and plans to sell it for $24K. Disregard the fact that it's been in an accident. What would you rather have:
02 IS300 5-speed (10,000 miles)
03/04 WRX
02 IS300 5-speed (10,000 miles)
03/04 WRX

my dos centavos are as follows:
we have a 2002 IS300 that we absolutely love. i've posted at length on numerous other threads as to why but i'll summarize by saying its quick, comfy, handles well and is an absolute joy to own.
having said that, i honestly think you're talking about two very different types of cars. the wrx is probably quicker. the is300 probably brakes better. i'm not sure which car has higher skidpad ratings, etc. but i personally feel the is handles better. the lexus is worlds ahead in refinement. the wrx has awd and is new and hasn't been in an accident.

I like the IS300 a lot, I only got to drive it around the neighborhood because no tags. It's shifter was real good and it's engine sound was great with good power. Overall on this short drive I put it above the shifter/engine in the 325i I drove a while back (not enough snort from the BMW 2.5L).
I haven't driven a WRX but I sat in one and it's build quality materials were 3 notches below the Lexus (obviously). But I choose the WRX (in the poll) because I get a lot of snow/ice and I have to get to work no matter what the road conditions and I think the WRX would be a better bad weather car.

WRX: if this is you only car.
WRX: if you already have S2000 .
WRX: if you are car enthusiast.
IS300: if luxury matter.
IS300: if the best workmanship matter.
You should do yourself a favor; go get a test drive on both of them.

The WRX offers a lot more than the IS300, but Lexus is a good investment. But as far as being fun to drive goes, I think the WRX gives you far more. All else being equal, I'd take a 2004 model over a 2002 model any day, but that's just me.

sorry, i'm perplexed by the two most recent posts.
why would a front engine, rear wheel drive sports sedan powered by a smooth, torquey inline 6 cylinder that has great handling and excellent brakes not appeal to the car enthusiast?
for that matter, how exactly does the subie offer "a lot more" than the IS300. i readily admit the subie (at least in a manual) is quicker than the IS but its nowhere near as polished, smooth or refined. for that matter, i'm not convinced that it handles better or brakes better.
