RX-8 matched an M3's lap time too on the Top Gear test track. Unless I am mistaken...
The RX-8 is one of the best handling 4dr cars you can buy in its price range. Sure it doesn't get good gas mileage and isn't too reliable but I think its a great all around car if you need a car thats fun to drive and has more room than an S2K.

The RX8 is an amazing car that is always underestimated. Although it has shit for torque (even with a 477 stock) and shit for horsepower the power curve is completely amazing but not until you hit about 4000 rpm. That's when the power band is remarkably noticeable. Out of every car I have ever driven in my life nothing handles better than the RX8. The 350z is just as fast and handles nearly just as good on the street but just doesn't feel as fast when you drive it. it's ungodly torquey and all but just a drag. mustangs are only good for going straight the end... now the Audi tt is a different story. depending which model you're comparing it to. there is the 180 hp and the 225. all wheel drive or simply front? the 180 is really a drag to drive especially if you've driven a 225. the car feels like it's on rails just like the RX8 and is nearly as fun to drive due to the turbo. although the turbos take a minute to kick in but once they do the car is unleashed. with a chip the car is a serious toy you're playing with. long story short it's cheap to go fast. only negative thing about them is they're HUGE on subframe damage. not everything can be as reliable as a Honda
i'm done...

Yeah, but the Lotus Esprit is also about 15 years old. That is why they are putting out terrible times. They don't even make those anymore. Tires for cars back then were a joke, and suspension today is much farther along.

Cars are not numbers. Did you pick your wife based on her bra size?
cars are not JUST numbers. If I had to pick between a lightning fast car that's no fun vs a pure joy to drive with no power at all, I'd pick the latter.
That being said, I think these are tradeoffs you should be forced to make in the $20k range but not necessarily the $34k range.

Yeam, for 40k I'm looking at Corvettes or a Lotus, not Mustangs.
